The Zoom link will be emailed one week out from the start date once you have registered. I am hoping to bring people from other areas of the world together and support the different economic needs. To register, you write to me Karen Starz @ starz.organizer@gmail.com and we can discuss your contribution levels. The Fundamentals Series is a continuation from Fundamentals I to Fundamentals II and then to Fundamentals III and is 24 weeks long. You are allowed four absences total before being asked to withdraw and start at another time so please check your schedule carefully and make this 24 weeks a commitment on your calendar. It runs from October 15, 2026 to April 1, 2027.
What is it? This is a highly interactive, discussion-based exploration of Marshall Rosenberg’s book “Nonviolent Communication: a Language of Life, 3rd Ed.” (Puddle Dancer Press, 2015). Together, we will form an online learning community in which we can apply what we’ve read about with real people in real conversation. Reading, reflection, and review homework provide participants with the opportunity to make the most of the weekly online interactions, which will focus on practice and application. This is an excellent foundational workshop for the beginner or a sound refresher for returning practitioners.
Who is it for? This course is for people who have occasion to communicate with people and want to be able to do so more effectively, especially in the conversations which are most important to us. The people who will get the most out of the experience are those who read along in advance of each week’s session and come ready and willing to risk trying the things they read about in a real conversation with a real person.
What is unique about this course? Rosenberg’s compassionate communication framework is a powerful tool we can use to make authentic, heart-to-heart connections. Being heard, understood, and accepted is one of the most powerful gifts we can offer one another. It is also a gift that those around us desperately need. This group provides an opportunity to create peace in the world by creating peace within ourselves, as well as between ourselves and all with whom we speak.
Fundamentals II is a course for those who have had Fundamentals I class and is a continuation of the book "Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life" by Marshall Rosenberg. We will recap the first 6 chapters in brief and then expand our learning through the end of the book. These remaining chapters include empathy and self-empathy, mediation, gratitude, working with groups, and anger. This is a highly interactive class that focuses on real-life examples and creating a community of trust. There is a little growth work assigned weekly and the expectation that you will communicate about attending.
Fundamentals III is an advanced class for those of you who have done Fundamentals I and II which cover the book Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Life by Marshall Rosenberg. This is a highly interactive class that focuses on real-life examples and creating a community of trust. We focus on role-playing, embodied NVC and conflict resolution or mediating in real time. There is growth work assigned weekly and the expectation that you will focus on this outside of class.
